1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a national program to promote reading from a young age, prepare children for school, and encourage life-long learning. It's a simple and fun way to help your child prepare for kindergarten and learning to read! Stop by the Youth Services Desk today to get started! Questions? Contact the Youth Services Department at 419-874-3135 x116.

Ready to start now? You can print out this log and keep track.

How the Program Works:

  1. Read with your child! Read any book that you and your child enjoy.
  2. Track what you read! Use the log provided to record how many books you’ve read. You can repeat books that you read more than once and any books your child has read in story time! There’s also an app for iPhone and Android that you can use to track your books.
  3. Collect prizes! Come into the library after every 200 books read to earn fun prizes and place your name on our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten display! You can also pose with our special photo booth to show off your progress! When you reach 1,000 books you earn a special prize and become part of our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Hall of Fame!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is generously sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Perrysburg.
